US President Obama In Africa: To Meet Zuma

Today US president, Barack Obama will meet with South Africa’s president Jacob Zuma in Pretoria, however, the US president insists that he will not push for a visit with Nelson Mandela.
Mr Barak Obama is now in South Africa as part of his 3-nation Africa tour with his whole family. He Reached in Pretoria aboard Air Force One late on Friday evening.
Mr Obama expresses to reporters in Dakar, Senegal, before he left for South Africa that he “did not need a photo op” with the anti-apartheid icon, who remains in hospital.
“I think the main message we’ll want to deliver, if not directly to him, but to his family, is simply profound gratitude for his leadership,” Mr Obama said.
It comes after Mr Mandela’s ex-wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela said the former South African president’s condition has shown “great improvement” over recent days.

From the last 16 days Mandela was admitted for treatment for a lung infection. previously said to be in a serious but stable condition.

But after more than two weeks of serious treatment at Pretoria’s Mediclinic Heart Hospital, his condition is said to have deteriorated over the weekend.

President Jacob Zuma visited Mandela on Sunday evening and was told by doctors “that the former president’s condition had become critical over the past 24 hours.”

Mandela, who became South Africa’s first black president in 1994, is due to celebrate his 95th birthday on July 18.
